Ahmedabad, February 16: At least 13 schools in Ahmedabad and Vadodara were evacuated on Monday following the receipt of threatening emails claiming the presence of explosives on their premises. This prompted extensive security checks across the affected institutions.
Authorities confirmed that seven schools in Ahmedabad and six in Vadodara had received the threatening emails, with reports suggesting that two to three additional schools may have also been targeted.
In Ahmedabad, the institutions that confirmed receiving the emails include Asia School in Vastrapur, A-One School in Satellite, DAV International School in Makrba, and Ankur International School. In Vadodara, Urmi School, DR Amin School, and Nalanda School were among those affected.
Officials stated that other institutions in both cities remained on high alert as the verification process continued. The emails claimed that explosive devices had been planted within the school premises. Upon receiving the messages, school administrations notified the police and dismissed students as a precautionary measure.
To facilitate thorough inspections by security agencies, the campuses were evacuated, including the hostel at Urmi School in Vadodara. Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Sharad Singhal from Ahmedabad informed that security checks are ongoing, and so far, nothing suspicious has been found. He added, “We are filing a First Information Report against the sender of the email.”
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Kumar remarked that these emails appear to be hoaxes similar to previous incidents. He stated, “Our teams, including the bomb disposal squad, have been deployed for in-depth investigations. We will file a First Information Report and take appropriate action. Six schools have been confirmed, and we are verifying reports from two to three more schools.”
Bomb detection and neutralization teams, sniffer dogs, local police units, and senior officials were deployed at all affected campuses. Vehicles parked within the school premises were also inspected, while fire brigade teams remained on alert.
As of now, no explosives or suspicious items have been found, and the police continue to investigate the source of the emails.
