Stock Market Under Pressure: Sensex and Nifty Decline in Early Trading

New Delhi, January 3 – The domestic stock market faced selling pressure in early trading today, erasing the marginal gains seen at the opening. Profit-booking led to a decline in indices shortly after the market opened. By the end of the first hour of trading, the Sensex and Nifty were down by 0.65% and 0.64%, respectively.

Market Highlights: Gainers and Losers

Among the major stocks in early trading:

Top Gainers:

  • ONGC, Trent Limited, Shriram Finance, Titan Company, and NTPC showed gains between 3.15% and 0.83%.

Top Losers:

Out of 2,303 active stocks:

  • 1,594 stocks traded in the green.
  • 709 stocks traded in the red.

In the Sensex 30, 12 stocks were in positive territory, while 18 stocks were under selling pressure. Similarly, in the Nifty 50, 22 stocks showed gains, while 28 stocks declined.

Sensex Performance

  • The BSE Sensex opened with a 129.28-point gain at 80,072.99, but selling pressure pushed it into negative territory.
  • Despite intermittent buying, the index fell steadily, and by 10:15 AM, it was trading 521.03 points lower at 79,422.68.

Nifty Performance

  • The NSE Nifty began trading with a modest 7.75-point rise at 24,196.40 but soon slipped into the red.
  • By around 10 AM, the Nifty touched a low of 24,032.15.
  • By 10:15 AM, the Nifty was down 154.55 points, trading at 24,034.10.
