Statewide Blackout and Mock Drill Scheduled Again This Saturday May 30 Across All Districts of Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 29, 2025 — The Department of Civil Defence, Rajasthan has issued a directive to all District Magistrates and Collectors, instructing them to conduct a blackout and mock drill across the state on Saturday evening, as part of a comprehensive civil defence preparedness initiative.

Blackout

The directive was issued by Shri Jagjeet Singh Monga, Director, Civil Defence Rajasthan, following a recent communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Operation SHIELD to be Conducted Across 41 Districts

As per the official instructions, the second phase of the Statewide Civil Defence Exercise, titled “Operation SHIELD,” will be carried out on May 31, 2025, across all 41 districts in Rajasthan, spanning the state’s seven divisions.

This coordinated exercise is part of a broader national-level preparedness strategy aimed at strengthening response mechanisms in border and high-sensitivity regions. The drills are especially significant for states and Union Territories adjoining the western borders of India, and Rajasthan is one of the key focus areas.

Purpose and Protocol

The mock drills will simulate emergency scenarios such as air raids or large-scale power disruptions to assess district-level readiness, inter-agency coordination, and public awareness during crises. The blackout—a temporary shutdown of public and private lighting—will be an essential part of the simulation.

Local authorities are expected to alert residents, ensure cooperation, and conduct drills without disrupting essential services. The exercise aims to build a culture of preparedness, particularly in districts near international borders, and ensure administrative efficiency during real emergencies.
