Srinagar, June 8: In a significant operation aimed at making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free, the Srinagar police have seized properties valued at approximately ₹4 crore linked to two alleged drug traffickers. This action was taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
According to police officials, during an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, the Sangam police station seized the properties of Ghulam Ahmad Dar following an investigation related to FIR number 14/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. The estimated value of the seized properties is around ₹3 crore, which includes a residential house, a portion of land, and several commercial shops.
Evidence collected during the investigation indicated that these properties were acquired through illegal earnings from drug trafficking, leading to their seizure after completing the legal process.
In another case, the Nawhatta police station seized a residential property worth nearly ₹1 crore belonging to Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, son of the late Mohammad Subhan Sheikh, under FIR number 09/2018 related to Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. This property was also identified as illegally obtained through drug trafficking activities.
The police stated that these seizure operations aim to prevent the hiding, selling, or transferring of properties acquired from the illegal drug trade. The NDPS Act provides for the confiscation of properties obtained through illegal earnings to weaken the economic network of drug trafficking.
Srinagar police emphasized their commitment to taking strict action not only against drug traffickers but also against properties acquired through illegal activities. They believe that targeting the financial sources can effectively dismantle drug networks.
