New Delhi, May 1: In a significant change ahead of the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has replaced Shivam Mavi with seam-bowling all-rounder R.S. Ambreesh. Mavi has been ruled out for the season due to a groin injury.
In an official statement released by IPL on Friday, it was announced that Ambreesh, a right-arm medium pacer and left-handed batsman, will join SRH for ₹30 lakhs.
Ambreesh, hailing from Chennai, was part of India’s victorious squad in the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup held earlier this year in Zimbabwe and Namibia, where he emerged as one of the standout players of the tournament.
He finished as the joint highest wicket-taker for India with 11 wickets, playing a crucial role in securing the title for the team. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has established him as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket.
Previously, SRH had bolstered their pace attack by including Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madushanka as replacement players. South African pacer Coetzee joined the team in April, replacing David Payne, who was sidelined due to an ankle injury.
England’s fast bowler Payne was himself brought in as a replacement for Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards, who was ruled out due to a leg injury. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan pacer Madushanka was added to the SRH squad after Brydon Carse sustained a hand injury during practice.
Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad sits third in the points table, having won 6 out of 9 matches. Under the captaincy of Pat Cummins, the team is set to host three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium this Sunday.
