Lucknow, July 19: Samajwadi Party (SP) national spokesperson Ameer Jamai criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday for diverting attention from pressing political and contemporary issues. He addressed various topics including the Maulana Jargis Ansari controversy, the case of Azam Khan, statements by OP Rajbhar, remarks from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and issues surrounding the Jauhar University.
Commenting on posters put up by BJP leader Manish Yadav regarding Maulana Jargis Ansari, Jamai stated that Ansari had previously faced serious allegations and imprisonment. He emphasized that the SP has consistently demanded Ansari’s arrest, asserting that derogatory comments about deities from any religion are unacceptable. He suggested that the lack of action from the UP police might be politically motivated and accused some individuals of creating a political atmosphere solely through social media.
Regarding Azam Khan’s recent two-year sentence for inappropriate comments about a district magistrate, Jamai highlighted that Khan has been in jail for nearly six years. He described Khan as a significant leader of the socialist movement who has fought against communal forces throughout his life. Jamai alleged that there is administrative pressure on the judicial system in Uttar Pradesh, and expressed hope that Khan would receive justice soon.
In response to OP Rajbhar’s comments about crime involvement among the Yadav and Muslim communities, Jamai sarcastically remarked that it seems Rajbhar’s social media accounts are influenced by others. He reiterated that the SP still considers Rajbhar a part of PDA politics and criticized such statements for causing unnecessary controversy.
On Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s allegations against the SP and Congress regarding population balance and connections to Jinnah’s ideology, Jamai urged the government to wait for the SIT report to be made public. He questioned how the report’s key points were already circulating in the media if it was yet to be presented in the Supreme Court, suggesting that the government is creating new political controversies to distract the public from important issues.
Regarding Rajbhar’s statements about Jauhar University, Jamai assured that if the SP comes to power, the university will be redeveloped under the leadership of party president Akhilesh Yadav, even if it requires an expenditure of up to 10,000 crores. He deemed the ongoing demolition orders against the university unconstitutional and illegal, arguing that the relevant development authority did not exist at the time of its construction.
Supporting Maulana Arshad Madani’s statements about Congress and the history of the freedom movement, Jamai acknowledged the significant contributions of various classes and communities in India’s struggle for independence. He noted that many, including the Ulema of Deoband and others, fought against British rule and opposed Jinnah during the partition.
Jamai accused the current government of fostering an atmosphere of fear and division in society, asserting that peace, brotherhood, and social harmony are essential for the country’s progress. He recalled that during conflicts with Pakistan, Muslims in India stood firmly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army.
In response to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s comments on marriage and the Uniform Civil Code, Jamai stated that the government should adopt a uniform approach for all citizens rather than targeting a single community. He criticized such statements as politically polarizing and urged the government to focus more on social harmony and development, emphasizing that overall national progress is impossible without peace and brotherhood.
