Raipur, October 18 (Udaipur Kiran): The southwest monsoon is now nearing its end in Chhattisgarh, marking the onset of winter in the state. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures have started to dip, and mild winter conditions are expected to intensify over the next few days.
The department has predicted rainfall in parts of the state, with minimum temperatures likely to drop by 1 to 2°C in the next 12 hours — increasing the morning and evening chill.
Over the next two days, light rain is expected in several districts including Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Baloda Bazar, Mungeli, Korba, and Janjgir-Champa. From October 20 onwards, southern and central Chhattisgarh are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, with isolated thunderstorms possible at some locations.
Meteorologists reported that an upper air cyclonic circulation is currently active over north Jharkhand and adjoining areas at around 3.1 km above sea level. Under its influence, the weather pattern in southern and central Chhattisgarh is expected to change, potentially leading to a fresh spell of rain around Diwali.
In the last 24 hours, Jagdalpur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 32.2°C, while Ambikapur in the Surguja division saw a sharp drop in minimum temperature from 17°C to 15.4°C.
Officials noted that this year’s monsoon remained more active than usual across Chhattisgarh, bringing heavy rainfall to many regions. The Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy skies over the capital Raipur today.
