Udaipur : Many organizations and volunteers work for the cause of women empowerment in rural areas, however, women specially unmarried, divorced or separated ones dwelling in city areas are also in need of opportunities to become self reliant. Realizing the need, the municipal corporation at Dungarpur is soon to set up a sanitary pad manufacturing unit here. Some 95 women have already been registered who would be trained to make sanitary pads that would be marketed in towns and settlements in and around Dungarpur district.
The idea is the brainchild of council chairman KK Gupta who has already initiated a tender process to procure the sanitary pad manufacturing machine which is estimated to cost around 10 to 12 lakh rupees. ” It would be a latest machine having the capacity to make two to three thousand pads daily. In the first stage a batch of 10 women would be send to Mumbai for training to handle and operate the machine. These master trainers would impart the technology to their peers.
Those who would be engaged in the project would be paid a remuneration of 250-300 rupees on a daily basis” Gupta told Udaipur Kiran. The women would also be trained in a way so that they are able to market their product which would not only be affordable but less expensive than similar products available in the markets. The product would be eco friendly thus not causing any harm to the environment, Gupta said.
