Mumbai, May 1: Popular Hindi film actor Sonu Sood, often referred to as the ‘messiah of the needy’ for his humanitarian efforts, has expressed deep concern following a recent cruise accident in Madhya Pradesh. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Sood has been actively helping the underprivileged and has now raised serious questions about the administration’s response to such incidents. He lamented, asking how long people will continue to lose their lives due to systemic failures.
The tragic incident occurred near the Bargi Dam on the Narmada River, where a cruise boat capsized, resulting in the loss of nine lives, with more than ten individuals still reported missing. Sood, who had previously raised awareness about life jackets following similar accidents in Bihar and Vrindavan, expressed his frustration over the recurring nature of these tragedies.
In a post on social media platform X, he stated, “Not long ago, I posted about the boat accident in Bihar and urged for life jackets to be mandatory for every passenger. Then came the incident in Vrindavan… and now in Madhya Pradesh, where many more lives have been lost. How many more lives will be lost?”
Sood further emphasized the need for immediate action, insisting that no boat should set sail without every passenger wearing a life jacket. He called for the establishment of a government portal to ensure that all passengers are documented wearing life jackets before each journey, asserting that only strict accountability can save lives.
The actor had previously expressed his sorrow over the accident in Mathura, advocating for mandatory life jackets. He highlighted the frequency of boat accidents in the country, stating, “In the past year alone, dozens of innocent lives have been lost in similar incidents, most of which could have been prevented if life jackets were worn. Why can’t we make this a simple rule?”
