New Delhi, 18 December. To keep the body fit and active, including dry fruits in the diet is essential. Dry fruits not only nourish the body’s cells but also support mental alertness and brain health.
It is often advised to soak dry fruits overnight before consuming them. But why is this recommended? Today, we explain the benefits of soaking dry fruits and which varieties can be eaten without soaking.
Everyone should consume almonds, but preferably after soaking them. Soaking overnight reduces the phytic acid in almonds, which otherwise hinders nutrient absorption in the body. It also aids digestion and helps the body absorb the full nutritional value of almonds.
Raisins should also be soaked overnight and eaten in the morning. Soaked raisins have higher iron content compared to dry ones and assist in digestion while helping to reduce body heat. While dry raisins have a slightly warming effect, soaked raisins provide a cooling effect on the body.
Figs should be consumed after soaking as well. When dry, fig fibers become hard and difficult to digest. Soaking softens them, improving the absorption of calcium, potassium, and other minerals. Consuming soaked figs with milk can double the body’s energy levels.
Certain seeds also provide nutritional benefits when soaked overnight. These include flax seeds, fenugreek seeds, and coriander seeds. Soaking fenugreek seeds reduces their bitterness and aids digestion. Drinking fenugreek seed water or eating the seeds helps control blood sugar and cholesterol levels and removes toxins from the intestines.
Flax seeds should be soaked before consumption too. Soaking reduces their phytic acid content, making digestion easier. Flax seeds are rich in protein, calcium, and iron, which protect the body from many diseases. On the other hand, walnuts, poppy seeds, cashews, pistachios, and melon seeds can be consumed without soaking.
