Shoddy Construction Exposed: Road Collapses in the Middle

Udaipur road collapse

Udaipur. On the Ayad Sreeniketan Road near Lakecity Mall, a portion of the road built over a drain suddenly collapsed on Wednesday night. Despite the large pothole that appeared, fortunately, no one fell in, and a major accident was averted. This incident exposed the use of substandard construction materials. Photos and videos of the deep pothole in the middle of the road were widely circulated on social media late into the night. Meanwhile, the police closed the one-way route from Ayad Pulia to Durga Nursery Chauraha.

It is reported that the municipal corporation had constructed this road just six months ago. The location of the pothole is over a deep, large drain that carries the sewage from the city and Shaktinagar area into the Ayad River. Eyewitnesses stated that the road had sunk in two places in the morning, with a cement slab between the two potholes. This caused many drivers to lose balance between the potholes and the cement slab, with several narrowly avoiding falls. Throughout the day, many people who had been destabilized by the pothole informed the traffic police personnel standing at the intersection, but their concerns were ignored. By late night, any heavy vehicle passing through caused the entire section of the road to collapse. Those coming from behind narrowly avoided falling into the collapsed area.

After the road was damaged, the police deployed personnel at Ayad Pulia and Durga Nursery, placing barricades on both sides and closing the one-way route. When vehicles passed through the other end of the bridge, many people stopped to take photos and videos of the pothole, sharing them with comments on social media.
