Sevilla Crush Barcelona 4-1, End Champions’ Unbeaten Run in La Liga 2025

Seville, October 6 (Udaipur Kiran): In a stunning upset, Sevilla defeated reigning champions Barcelona 4-1 on Sunday, ending their unbeaten start to the La Liga 2025 season and denying them a return to the top of the points table.

This victory marked Sevilla’s first league win over Barcelona since 2015. With the result, Sevilla climbed temporarily to fourth place with 13 points from eight matches, while Barcelona stayed in second place with 19 points, two behind leaders Real Madrid.

Barcelona struggled to find rhythm early on, failing to register a single shot on target in the opening 30 minutes. Sevilla took the initiative by exploiting long balls towards Alexis Sanchez, who was instrumental in the attack.

Sevilla drew first blood in the 13th minute, when Isaac Romero was fouled by Ronald Araujo inside the box. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, and Sanchez converted confidently, sending goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way.

Szczesny saved Romero’s shot in the 27th minute, but could not stop him in the 37th minute, as Romero scored from a Ruben Vargas cross, making it 2-0.

Just before halftime, Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Barcelona with a left-footed finish off Pedri’s lofted pass, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

Barcelona pushed hard in the second half and had a golden chance to equalize in the 76th minute after Alejandro Balde was fouled inside the box. However, Robert Lewandowski missed the penalty, sending it wide.

Sevilla sealed the match in the 90th minute, with Carmona slotting home through a defender’s legs to make it 3-1. In injury time, substitute Ekor Adams added a fourth goal from Chidera Ejuke’s assist, completing a memorable win.

Sevilla, who have now won two consecutive matches, will face Mallorca on October 18 after the international break, while Barcelona will take on Girona the same day.
