Gandharbal, June 20: In anticipation of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela, police in Gandharbal district of Jammu and Kashmir conducted a comprehensive Advanced Security Tasking (AST) exercise to ensure safety and smooth travel for pilgrims along the Gandharbal-Baltal and Kheer Bhawani routes.
The AST exercise was carried out by senior officials of the Gandharbal police in collaboration with other security agencies. It involved a detailed review of sensitive locations, deployment plans, traffic management measures, emergency response systems, crowd control strategies, and preparations at key routes.
During the exercise, officials inspected several critical points along the Baltal and Kheer Bhawani temple routes, assessing security and logistical arrangements to strengthen the multi-layered security setup for both major religious events. Field officers were instructed to remain vigilant, ensure better coordination among all stakeholders, and facilitate the movement of pilgrims.
Earlier, on June 18, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gandharbal Jatin Kishore chaired a security coordination meeting with police and security forces to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
The meeting discussed a comprehensive security plan developed to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Officials reported that adequate security arrangements are being made at all critical locations, including the Baltal base camp, Manigam transit camp, and along the pilgrimage route.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining better coordination among all agencies and instructed officials to enhance vigilance during the pilgrimage period and ensure rapid response in any situation. He stated that all preparations should be completed in advance to provide pilgrims with a safe and hassle-free travel experience.
