Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim to Feature a Titanium Backplate: Report

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, a slimmer version of the recently announced Galaxy Z Fold 6, is rumored to be in development. According to a new report, the foldable smartphone may feature a titanium backplate instead of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic and stainless steel (CFRP) material the company typically uses. The slimmer foldable smartphone is also said to be without Samsung’s S Pen support, which could be due to the inclusion of new external materials. According to previous reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could launch in October.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim will apparently have a titanium back

Citing an unnamed Samsung Electronics parts supplier, The Elec reports that the South Korean tech giant may opt for a titanium back panel for the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. The company is reportedly willing to use titanium for the backplate and hinge system, despite the difficulty of machining the metal.

According to the report, the back of the foldable smartphone will act as a support between the foldable display and the hinge. This means that the titanium needs to be etched so that the hinge can move freely. Titanium is not easy to machine or machine, the release said, so the company may need a new process to produce it.

The report also claims that the titanium back could be the reason why the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim lacks Samsung’s S Pen support. A report in May suggested that the supposedly slim foldable model might not support S Pen functionality. It has been reported that this may be because Titan can interfere with the digitizer that connects the S Pen to your smartphone.

According to the report, despite its titanium body, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is capable of supporting the S Pen as there is no metal directly surrounding the display. This also applies to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim.

Additionally, the report also claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could be around 11mm thick, compared to 12.1mm thickness of the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6. The slimmer foldable model features a 6.5-inch cover display, which is also said to have an 8-inch main display.
