Samsung Galaxy S25 Chip Twist: Exynos 2500 Back in the Race After Yield Issues Addressed?

According to a South Korean report, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series could feature the Exynos 2500 chipset, contradicting claims that the company plans to exclusively use Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile processors in its upcoming flagship phones.

According to reports, the company is working on improving the efficiency of the chipset and there are only a few months left until the announcement of the successor to this year’s Galaxy S24 model. Samsung is also working on a new Exynos chip for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 series.

According to ZDNet Korea (in Korean), Samsung is “fully committed” to developing its own chipset for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series under a project called “Solomon.” According to reports, the efficiency of the next-generation Exynos 2500 processors has been low in recent months.

Citing industry sources, the magazine said Exynos 2500 returns remained below 20 percent in the second quarter of 2024 compared to single-digit percentages in the previous quarter. According to the report, Samsung needs to increase its yield to 60% (or more) by September or October before mass production of the Exynos 2500 chips begins.

The Exynos 2500 isn’t the only high-end chip from South Korean tech companies. According to the report, the next-generation Exynos W1000 chip is being developed as part of Samsung’s “Sapphire” project and will replace the dual-core Exynos W930 found in the Galaxy Watch 6 models.

Earlier this month, Ming-Chi Kuo, market analyst at TF International Securities, predicted that Samsung will equip all of its Galaxy S25 series smartphones with the Snapdragon chipset due to the low performance of the Exynos 2500.

This year, the standard Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus models are equipped with the Exynos 2400 chipset (excluding Canada, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Taiwan and the United States) and the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 chipset .

I am the 3rd generation chip. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will equip all models in the Galaxy S25 series with Snapdragon chips, similar to last year’s Galaxy S23 series.
