Seoul | May 14, 2025 – Samsung has announced that Google Gemini, the powerful AI assistant increasingly replacing Google Assistant across Android, will soon be supported on its Galaxy Buds 3 and select Sony earbuds. This move brings advanced AI capabilities to wearable audio devices for the first time and marks a broader push by Google to integrate Gemini into the Android ecosystem beyond smartphones.
In a joint update with Google, Samsung revealed that Gemini will roll out to Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Watches in the coming months, though no firm release date has been confirmed. The integration will allow users to interact with Gemini via voice or gesture controls, expanding the utility of Samsung’s wearables significantly.
Gemini-Powered Features Coming to Galaxy Buds and Watches
Unlike the more basic, scripted interactions offered by Google Assistant, Gemini provides contextual awareness, memory, and summarization abilities. For instance, users will be able to ask Gemini to recall where certain items were stored or request email summaries directly from their Galaxy Watch. With Galaxy Buds 3, the interaction will be voice-only, as the earbuds lack screens, but users can still issue commands via pinch-and-hold gestures or their connected Galaxy phone.
Samsung specifically confirmed Gemini support for the Galaxy Buds 3 series, though other earbuds have not been mentioned. On the wearable side, Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 are expected to be fully compatible. There’s hope that older models may receive support, but no official word has been given.
Sony Earbuds to Join the Gemini Ecosystem
In a separate statement, Google confirmed that select Sony earbuds will also receive Gemini access, though it stopped short of listing specific models. As with Samsung’s earbuds, users will be able to access Gemini via paired smartphones, enabling voice-driven interactions without visual responses.
