New Delhi, 13 November (Udaipur Kiran). Former India captain Rohit Sharma holds several major batting records, but one achievement remains unmatched even after more than a decade — his iconic 264-run innings in One-Day Internationals.
On 13 November 2014, at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, Rohit dismantled the Sri Lankan bowling attack. Opening the innings under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Hitman produced one of the greatest ODI knocks ever played.
Marking the 11th anniversary of this memorable innings, the BCCI shared the moment on social media. Posting a video clip on ‘X’, the board wrote, “11 years ago, Rohit Sharma played a magnificent knock of 264 runs.”
The clip shows Rohit smashing fours and sixes across the ground. According to BCCI, Rohit scored 264 off 173 balls, including 33 boundaries and 9 towering sixes — the highest individual score in ODI history.
In that match, the fourth ODI of the series between India and Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first. Rohit opened with Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 28 off 24 balls before being dismissed. Ambati Rayudu followed but could score only 8 off 19 balls, leaving India at 59 for 2.
Rohit held one end firmly, while wickets continued to fall from the other side. He later built a crucial 200-run partnership with Virat Kohli, who played a steady innings of 66. After Kohli’s dismissal at 261, India marched past 300 with ease — but Rohit had bigger plans. After reaching his century, he accelerated further, partnering with Suresh Raina and Robin Uthappa to take India to a massive total of 404.
In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 251, handing India a dominant 153-run victory.
