Rohit Sharma Dismisses Retirement Speculations, Declares – “I Am Not Retiring”

Dubai, March 10  – A Bold Statement from the Indian Captain After leading India to a triumphant victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Rohit Sharma has categorically dismissed all retirement speculations. Addressing the media with clarity and confidence, the Indian skipper made it absolutely clear:
“I am not retiring.”

Putting an end to weeks of speculation and rumors surrounding his future, Rohit took the initiative himself, stating:
“One more thing. I am not retiring from this format, so let’s not spread any false news.”

This assertive declaration was not a response to any reporter’s question but a deliberate announcement to ensure there were no misinterpretations about his future in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s Determination to Continue

In a post-match press conference, Rohit was asked about his future plans, to which he responded in Hindi:
“Future plan? No future plan. Whatever is going on, will keep going.”

His short yet powerful statement indicated that he remains fully committed to the game and has no immediate plans to step away from ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s Spectacular Champions Trophy Performance

Rohit once again proved his worth in the Champions Trophy, showcasing his brilliance as India’s top-order batsman. He amassed 180 runs in the tournament, and during the final, he achieved a remarkable milestone—completing 11,000 international ODI runs.

His career stats in ODIs are phenomenal, with:

  • 273 ODI matches
  • 11,168 runs at an impressive average of 48.76
  • 32 centuries, including three double centuries—an unmatched record in ODI history

Despite his age and years of service in international cricket, Rohit’s hunger for success remains undiminished, making it evident that he still has more to contribute to Indian cricket.

Retirement Talks Sparked After His T20 Exit

The speculation over Rohit Sharma’s retirement began after he stepped away from T20 internationals following India’s World Cup triumph in June last year in Barbados. With Rohit focusing more on ODIs and Tests, several reports suggested that he might consider retiring from ODIs after leading India in the Champions Trophy.

However, his clear and strong statement now puts all rumors to rest—he is here to stay and continue leading Team India in the 50-over format.

Virat Kohli’s Future Also Under Spotlight

Rohit was not the only player under scrutiny regarding retirement speculations. Virat Kohli, another stalwart of Indian cricket, also faced similar questions. However, Kohli silenced his critics with a strong performance, scoring 218 runs in five matches, including a brilliant century.

Like Rohit, Kohli had also retired from T20Is after the Barbados World Cup victory. His decision to continue in ODIs and Tests aligns with Rohit’s approach, signaling that the senior duo is far from done with international cricket.
