Ahmedabad, 24 June (Udaipur Kiran): Monsoon has advanced from South Gujarat towards Saurashtra in Gujarat. Monsoon has entered Saurashtra along with South Gujarat. Heavy rains lashed several districts of the state since Monday morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Dwarka, Jamnagar in Saurashtra and Valsad in South Gujarat for the next five days.
Rainfall Recorded:
- From 6 am to 4 pm on Monday, 96 out of 252 tehsils of the state received rain.
- The highest rainfall was recorded in Lalpur tehsil of Jamnagar at 65 mm, followed by Olpad (47 mm), Kalyanpur (42 mm), Bhanvad (36 mm), Sankheda (34 mm), Karjan (33 mm), and Netrang (30 mm).
- Valsad received 22 mm of rain between 12 pm and 2 pm, while Gandevi received 6 mm.
Impacts of Rainfall:
- A bridge near Mulia in Kalavad tehsil of Jamnagar district was damaged due to heavy rains, trapping a school bus. The villagers rescued the children.
- A youth was killed in a lightning strike in Barwala tehsil of Botad district.
- The diversion built on the Kotar on the Eena river in Sankheda tehsil of Chhota Udepur district was washed away due to the strong flow of water. This has disrupted traffic and affected more than 25 villages.
Alerts Issued:
- Red alert for Dwarka, Jamnagar, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
- Orange alert for Junagadh, Amreli, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Diu, Surat, Navsari, Tapi, and Dang.
- Yellow alert for Arvalli and Mahisagar districts.
Fishermen’s Advisory:
- Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea due to red alert in Saurashtra and South Gujarat coastal areas.
