Rajasthan to Start New Year with Cold Winds and Light Rain

Jaipur, 29 December – Rajasthan is likely to welcome the New Year with cold winds and light rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain in some parts of the state.

According to the IMD, a Western Disturbance will be active on 31 December and 1 January, bringing light rain to northern and western Rajasthan.

The rainfall is expected mainly in the districts of Bikaner and the Shekhawati region, including Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu, and nearby areas.

Meteorological officials have noted that cold winds may intensify, causing a drop in temperature. Additionally, dense fog is likely in some areas during the first week of January.

Radheyshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, stated that a new and strong Western Disturbance will cause cloudy skies on 31 December and 1 January over parts of the Bikaner division and Shekhawati region.

He added that light rain or drizzle may occur in some places. On 31 December, cloudy conditions are expected in Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar districts. On New Year’s Day, clouds are likely over Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Alwar, with chances of light rain or drizzle in some areas. Meanwhile, night temperatures have dropped sharply across the state.

On Sunday, minimum temperatures fell below 10 degrees Celsius in 23 cities, with seven cities recording temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius.

Several cities, including Mount Abu, Fatehpur, Karauli, Dausa, Pali, and Sikar, recorded single-digit minimum temperatures. Pali recorded 3.6 degrees Celsius, Sikar 5.0 degrees Celsius, Churu 6.3 degrees Celsius, Lunkaransar 7.2 degrees Celsius, Alwar 4.8 degrees Celsius, Jaipur 8.5 degrees Celsius, Ajmer 9.7 degrees Celsius, and Kota 11.1 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has indicated that minimum temperatures are expected to remain near normal for the next three to four days, but cold winds will keep the chill alive.
