Monsoon Arrives in Rajasthan but Fails to Bring Heavy Rains
JAIPUR, June 26 (Udaipur Kiran): Despite the arrival of the monsoon season, Rajasthan has yet to experience widespread heavy rainfall. Although light to moderate showers were recorded in Jaipur and a dozen other cities on Wednesday, the most significant rainfall was 65 mm in Dholpur. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted increased thunderstorm and rainfall activity in some parts of eastern Rajasthan from June 27, with the possibility of heavy showers in some areas from June 27 to 29.
Tragic Incident in Pali
In a tragic incident in Pali’s Bāli area, a canopy collapsed on people sitting outside a shop on the Bījāpur-Rāta Mahāvīr Jī Road around 3 pm on Wednesday, seeking shelter from the rain. The incident resulted in the on-the-spot deaths of two siblings, while their mother and another person were critically injured. The injured were initially treated at Bāli Hospital and later referred to Sumerpur for further treatment.
Rainfall Recorded Across Rajasthan
According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Jaipur, Sīkar, Chittorgarh, Phalodi, Alwar, Chūru, Dholpur, Karauli, Mount Ābū, Dausa, Bharatpur, Pāli, and Sawai Mādhopur, on Wednesday. Besides Dholpur, significant rainfall was recorded in Khairathal-Tijara (65 mm), Bharatpur (57 mm), Pāli’s Desūri (54 mm), Sīkar (10 mm), Phalodi (8.8 mm), Karauli (6.6 mm), Chūru (6 mm), and Mount Ābū (3 mm). On Tuesday, Jaipur’s Kālvār recorded 57 mm, Sāngāwāla 76 mm, Dausa’s Mahwā 60 mm, Bāṛmer’s Sedvā 66 mm, and Sīkar’s Rīngas 53 mm rainfall.
Heatwave Persists in Western Rajasthan
The daytime temperature crossed 40°C in seven cities across the state, with western Rajasthan districts continuing to experience intense heat. Bīkāner was the hottest city on Wednesday, recording a maximum temperature of 43°C and a minimum temperature of 33.3°C. Other cities with daytime temperatures above 40°C included Pīlānī, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Chūru, Srī Gangānagar, and Fatehpur. Additionally, five cities recorded nighttime temperatures above 30°C, including Bīkāner, Chūru, Jaisalmer, Gangānagar, and Fatehpur. The IMD has predicted a high probability of maximum temperatures reaching 43 to 45°C and heatwave conditions in some parts of the Jodhpur and Bīkāner divisions during the next 24 hours.
Scattered Showers in Jaipur
Jaipur experienced scattered showers on Wednesday, while a significant portion of the city remained dry. Residents continued to struggle with the heat and humidity due to the lack of widespread rainfall. The presence of clouds led to a slight drop in daytime temperatures but a one-degree increase in nighttime temperatures. Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C and a minimum temperature of 28.8°C. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature was 37.2°C, and the minimum temperature on Monday night was 27.8°C.
