Jaipur, December 2 (Udaipur Kiran) – With the onset of December, winter’s grip is tightening across Rajasthan. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Sikar from December 3 to 5. Dense fog engulfed Sikar on Tuesday morning, reducing visibility to less than 100 meters in several rural areas. The Shekhawati region, along with Alwar and NCR areas, also witnessed fog effects. Meanwhile, Jaipur experienced relatively milder winter conditions due to cloud cover.
Rajasthan is expected to face severe cold from December to February this year. The weather department indicates that cold wave days may exceed normal levels, with minimum temperatures likely to remain below average. However, reduced rainfall or ‘mawath’ is expected during this period, which could keep daytime temperatures around normal levels. Northern, eastern, and south-eastern parts of Rajasthan will experience more intense cold, while western regions may witness normal winter conditions.
Rainfall from western disturbances in December and January is also forecast to be below average this time. However, heavy snowfall in northern India and the resulting cold winds could intensify the cold wave impact in Rajasthan.
As winter intensifies, dew formation has begun on crops in rural areas. This effect was clearly visible in Sriganganagar fields on Monday.
Several cities recorded a drop of one to two degrees in minimum temperature over the past 24 hours. Cold conditions have intensified in Pilani, Alwar, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Churu, Jalore, and Sirohi. Monday’s coldest location was Lunkaransar, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius. Fatehpur in Sikar recorded 6.5 degrees, while Churu registered 7.4 degrees.
During daytime hours, most cities enjoyed good sunshine, providing some relief from the cold. Maximum temperatures showed minor fluctuations. Barmer recorded the highest maximum temperature at 30.1 degrees Celsius. Jalore measured 29.7 degrees and Nagaur recorded 28 degrees.
