Rain Washes Out IPL 2026 Match Between KKR and Punjab Kings

Kolkata, April 7: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings was abandoned due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing one point each.

On Monday, KKR won the toss at Eden Gardens and opted to bat first. The team faced an early setback, losing their first wicket at a mere score of 12 runs when Javier Bartlett dismissed Finn Allen for 6 runs in the fourth ball of the second over.

Cameron Green, who came in at number three, managed to hit a boundary on his first ball but was caught out on the next delivery, leaving Bartlett with two wickets in his first over.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane (not out 8) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (not out 7) attempted to stabilize the innings, as KKR reached 25 runs for the loss of two wickets in 3.4 overs before rain interrupted the match.

The rain stopped around 10:30 PM, and after a half-hour delay, the umpires consulted with both captains, who were seen shaking hands. Had the match been a five-over contest, KKR could have faced a disadvantage, as they had only 1.2 overs left and a low score.

With the points shared, KKR opened their account in the tournament, now sitting at the eighth position with one point from three matches. They had previously lost to Mumbai Indians by six wickets and to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 65 runs.

In contrast, Punjab Kings lead the points table with five points from three matches, having won against Gujarat Titans by three wickets and Chennai Super Kings by five wickets.

Punjab Kings will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match on April 11, while Kolkata Knight Riders will play against Lucknow Super Giants on April 9.
