Prime MInister spoke of the many initiatives taken by his govt for the growth of the sector. He said the expo would directly connect weavers and traders to the world.
Referring to the handloom and handicraft sector as an intrinsic part of the rich heritage of our country, Prime MInister said that Varanasi has always played prominent role in showcasing the beauty of India’s handicrafts to the world.
Prime Minister said that carpets worth 9000 crores were sold in 100 countries last year, and the target is to take this feagure to 25,000 crore rupees by 2022.
Saying that the Made in India brand was already a big one, PM Modi said that the govt is committed to further improve this sector.
Partipants who attended, including weavers and craftsmen, lauded the initiatives launched by govt to support this industry.Nearly 250 Carpet dealers from 38 countries are participating in the expo.
In addition, domestic dealers and manufacturers from Jammu and Kashmir and west Bengal among other states are also participating.
The expo, being organised under the aegis of the Deen dayal Hastkala Sankalp, has become a world fame international fair amongst the buyers of Handmade carpets, rugs and other floor coverings.
