Udaipur, 28 July : A major accident was narrowly avoided on Monday at the Government Upper Primary School in Naya Rajpura, located in the Vallabhnagar subdivision of Udaipur district, when plaster from the ceilings of three classrooms collapsed while 45 students were inside. Thanks to the prompt action of the teachers, all students were safely evacuated, preventing any injuries.
The school has a total of 77 registered students, of which 64 were present on the day of the incident.

Anger Among Parents and Villagers
The incident sparked outrage among parents and villagers. In protest, locals locked the school premises and warned that they would not send their children back until proper repairs were made. They claimed that three out of the four classrooms in the school are in a dilapidated condition, posing a constant threat to students.
Third Such Incident in Vallabhnagar in Two Days
This was the third such incident reported in the Vallabhnagar region within two days. On Sunday, the verandah wall of a government school in Rupawali village collapsed, though no injuries occurred as the school was closed that day. Similarly, plaster fell from the ceiling of Pandya Wada school in the Rishabhdev area on Sunday. Due to the unsafe condition of the building, villagers declared a holiday at the school on Monday.
Temporary Arrangements for Classes
Following the incident, Panchayat Elementary Education Officer Bhagirath Meghwal stated that classes would now be held either in the school’s only safe classroom or under a shed with iron roofing within the campus. Parents are being counselled not to panic, and authorities have assured that repair work will begin soon.
Meanwhile, at Pandya Wada school, a School Management Committee meeting was held on Monday. It was decided that classes for Grades 1 to 8 will be conducted in the Panchayat Bhawan, while Grades 9 to 12 will continue in the school’s safe classrooms.
Rising Concerns Over School Building Safety
It is noteworthy that a recent roof collapse in a school in Jhalawar led to the tragic death of seven children. Since then, there has been growing concern across Rajasthan about the safety of school buildings.
