Based on a report, the pre-installed Thermometer app of Google Pixel 9 Pro series as well as for Pixel 8 Pro might be getting some new features which might ease the process of temperature recording. It has reportedly been caught in an APK teardown of the app. This feature may auto-detect the material whose temperature is going to be measured using the temperature sensor mounted at the back of the Pixel 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 8 Pro.
New Thermometer App Feature on Google Pixel
Android Authority along with a tipster AssembleDebug uncovered a report that revealed the thermometer app for Google Pixel 9 Pro/XL and Pixel 8 Pro is testing material auto-detection feature. Apparently, this piece of information came out through APK teardown of version 1.0.676362763 of the Pixel Thermometer app.
This currently demands the Pixel user to choose what material is being monitored prior to taking its temperature reading. This includes food and organic, drinks and water, cast iron, shiny material, matte material, fabric, and wood. Of course, with this feature, this requirement might be done away altogether since the device will automatically know the type of material before scanning with models from TensorFlow Lite.
It may still offer an optional choice for manual material selection. The report speculates this capability could be included in the material selection menu. Though strings referencing this ability were noticed, the publication could not activate it on their handsets.
This is important to note: all findings from APK teardowns are part of the greater umbrella of in-development features. Many are tested, which may not mean that all will see the light of day in the public version of the app.
Body Temperature Measurement on Pixel
Just this month, Google is opening up to its users in Europe a feature to measure body temperature with supported Pixel smartphones. The move supplements an already existent object temperature measurement feature on the Pixel Thermometer app that allows users to connect their Fitbit and log their temperature.
It is now available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, the UK and many more countries.
