Udaipur, July 25: The Department of Community Medicine at the Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Udaipur organised a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Basics in Research Methodology” on Saturday. The workshop was conducted for postgraduate residents and research scholars with the aim of strengthening their understanding of scientific research methods.

Experts Discuss Key Aspects of Medical Research
The CME was chaired by Dr. Suresh Chandra Goyal, Principal and Controller, PIMS, while Dr. Dilip Kumar Parik, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, served as the Organising Secretary. Dr. Vaibhav Chittora, Statistician and Assistant Professor, coordinated the programme.
Dr. Yogesh Singhal and Dr. Avantika Gupta delivered lectures and contributed to the academic sessions. Sai Tirupati University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prashant Nahar and Medical Superintendent Dr. Sarita Kant also attended the programme.
The keynote sessions were delivered by Dr. K.A. Varghese, Emeritus Professor of Statistics with over four decades of experience, and Dr. Ashish Jain, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, RNT Medical College, Udaipur, who shared their expertise with the participants.
Sessions Focused on Research Methodology
The CME featured detailed sessions on key aspects of scientific research, including:
- Identification of research problems
- Study design
- Literature review
- Data classification and structure
- Sample size calculation
- Selection of appropriate statistical tests
- Research ethics
- Scientific writing
Postgraduate residents from the first, second and third years, along with research scholars from the institute, actively participated in the workshop.
Certificates Distributed to Participants
The organisers said the workshop would help young researchers improve the quality of their research work by strengthening their understanding of research methodology.
The programme concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to all attendees.
