Focus on Basic Suturing Skills and Advancements in Surgical Techniques
Udaipur, May 13, 2025 — The Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Umarda, successfully organized the Surgical Excellence and Educational Conference 2025, focusing on foundational and modern surgical suturing techniques. The event drew participation from over 350 undergraduate, postgraduate students, and surgeons representing six medical colleges across Rajasthan.

Conference Aimed at Strengthening Surgical Foundations
Inaugurating the event, PIMS Chairperson Ashish Agrawal emphasized the importance of basic suturing skills for all medical graduates. “The objective of this conference is to ensure that every medical graduate has hands-on knowledge of suturing techniques. The workshop was curated to equip postgraduate students with essential surgical suturing methods,” he stated.
Prof. Dr. Prem Prakash Sharma, Head of the General Surgery Department at PIMS and Chair of the organizing committee, along with Organizing Secretary Dr. Ali Abbas Sabunwala, Assistant Professor in General Surgery, provided detailed insights into the conference’s academic vision and structure.
Modern Surgical Suturing Techniques in Focus
The conference, themed around Basic Suturing Skills, featured expert-led lectures and practical demonstrations on traditional and modern suturing practices. Renowned faculty members from medical institutions in Udaipur delivered sessions on topics ranging from fundamental knot-tying to cutting-edge surgical suture technologies.
PIMS Principal and Controller Dr. Suresh Chandra Goyal, and Sai Tirupati University President Dr. Prashant Nahar, also addressed the attendees, shedding light on the evolution of suturing techniques and the importance of continued medical education in surgical fields.

Academic activities during the event included a Postgraduate Poster Presentation and a Quiz Competition, both of which saw enthusiastic participation from students. The hands-on workshop enabled attendees to practice various suture techniques and knot-tying methods under expert supervision.
More than 350 participants registered for the Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions and workshops, reaffirming the demand for such practical and knowledge-based training in surgical disciplines.
