Paris, July 30 (Udaipur Kiran) — Indian table tennis player Manika Batra secured a victory over France’s Prithika Pawade in the Round of 32 match of the women’s singles event at the Paris Olympics on Monday night. Batra won the match with a convincing 4-0 scoreline, with game scores of 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7.
After trailing by two points, Batra made a comeback to win the first game 11-9. She then comfortably secured the second game with a five-point lead. Despite Pawade’s resistance in the third game, Batra clinched it 11-9.
Earlier, in the Round of 64, Batra defeated Anna Hursley of Great Britain. The 29-year-old Batra delivered a strong performance to win the match with scores of 11-8, 12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, advancing to the Round of 32.
Batra demonstrated remarkable composure throughout the match. The third game was particularly thrilling, with Hursley initially leading 8-7. However, Batra maintained her composure and won the game 11-9. In the fourth game, Batra started strongly, quickly building a 5-1 lead, but Hursley fought back to lead 6-5. The game saw a back-and-forth exchange of leads before Hursley eventually won 11-9.
Despite the setback, Batra overcame the disappointment of losing the fourth game and made a determined comeback in the fifth game, winning 11-5 to secure her victory in the match.
