Paris, July 29 (Udaipur Kiran): The Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and N. Sriram Balaji crashed out of the men’s doubles competition in the first round of the Paris Olympics late on Sunday.
The Indian duo suffered a straight-sets 7-5, 6-2 defeat against the French pair of Gael Monfils and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The match lasted for 1 hour and 16 minutes.
The French pair converted two of their three break-point opportunities, which helped them win the first set. Meanwhile, Bopanna-Balaji committed 15 unforced errors, which prevented them from controlling the match. In the second set, the French pair broke Bopanna-Balaji’s serve in the fourth and eighth games to secure a straight-sets victory.
Earlier in the day, India won its first medal at the Paris Olympics when top shooter Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. The 22-year-old Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting at the Olympics. Bhaker won the bronze medal with a score of 221.7, giving India its first medal in the ongoing mega event.
