Paris, August 3 (Udaipur Kiran) — Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen has made history by becoming the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semifinals of the badminton event at the Olympics. On Friday, Sen defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen with scores of 19-21, 21-15, 21-12 in the quarterfinals. Earlier, on Thursday, Sen had won against fellow Indian shuttler HS Prannoy with a commanding score of 21-12, 21-6 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Sen’s next match will be on Sunday (August 4) in the semifinals, where he will face either Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen or Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew.
In the first game, Sen and Chou Tien-Chen were locked in a fierce battle. Chou initially took a 5-3 lead, and although Sen fought back to level the score at 6-6, Chou’s aggressive shots helped him secure an 11-9 lead. Despite Sen’s efforts to equalize at 15-15 and then take a 18-17 lead, Chou managed to win the first game 21-19.
After losing the first set, Sen made a remarkable comeback, winning the next two sets comfortably with scores of 21-15 and 21-12 to secure his place in the semifinals.
