Chittorgarh, May 18 — In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, Begun Police in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district seized nearly 700 kilograms of doda chura (opium husk) concealed beneath wheat chaff during a highway checkpoint operation. The contraband, valued at over ₹1 crore in the illegal market, was being transported in a pickup vehicle.

The accused, Banwari Lal Yadav, a resident of Sreemadhopur in Sikar district, was arrested on the spot and is currently being interrogated for further leads regarding the supply chain.

Seizure Details

According to Superintendent of Police Sudhir Joshi, the operation took place on Saturday along the Kota National Highway (NH-27) near Mainal during a routine vehicle check.

During the operation, a suspicious pickup vehicle loaded with wheat husk was flagged down. However, the driver attempted to flee, prompting the police to cordon off and stop the vehicle. A detailed inspection led to the discovery of 29 plastic sacks containing 698.190 kg of partially crushed and powdered doda chura hidden underneath the husk.

Legal Action and Investigation

The contraband and the vehicle have been confiscated. A formal case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. Preliminary interrogation suggests the illegal substance was likely meant for interstate smuggling.

“The vehicle originated from Ladpura and was heading toward Mainal. We are investigating the source and destination of the consignment as well as other potential suspects involved,” said SP Joshi.

Further questioning of the accused is ongoing to trace the larger network of narcotics trafficking in the region.
