Patna : The political crisis in Bihar deepened on Saturday as sources said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will resign as the head of the state government on Sunday morning.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the JD(U) core committee, the party’s highest decision-making body.
Kumar is expected to meet Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan at 10 a.m. on Sunday and submit his resignation. He will then stake his claim to form a new government.
If Kumar is successful in forming a new government, it will be his ninth term as the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Earlier on Saturday, Kumar had stopped the work of RJD ministers. In response, the RJD ministers returned their official vehicles.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Singh, who arrived in Patna from Delhi, said that the world has seen the good governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Now, the people of Bihar also want to see Modi’s good governance,” he said.
The BJP is the single largest party in the Bihar Assembly with 127 seats. The JD(U) has 110 seats.
