Srinagar, 15 November (Udaipur Kiran). Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Saturday detailed the circumstances that led to the fatal explosion at the Naugam Police Station last night. The incident claimed nine lives and left 29 others injured, all of whom have been admitted to hospital.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the DGP said that a large quantity of explosives recovered from Faridabad had been stored at the Naugam Police Station as per standard procedure. Because of the sensitive and unstable nature of the seized material, sampling and examination were being carried out with extreme caution.
Despite all precautions, an accidental blast occurred on Friday night, resulting in nine deaths and injuries to 29 people. An investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
According to the DGP, the deceased include one SIA officer, three FSCL personnel, two crime photographers, two revenue officials and one tailor. Among the injured are both civilians and police personnel, who are currently under treatment. The explosion also caused extensive damage to the building and nearby structures. The DGP said the Jammu and Kashmir Police stand firmly with the families of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.
