MP Dr. Ravat Holds Meeting with Agricultural and Forestry Scientists to Revitalize Mewar and Vagad’s Economy

Udaipur, January 8, 2025: In a bid to align the rural economy of Mewar and Vagad with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Developed India 2047’ initiative, MP Dr. Mannalal Ravat chaired a significant meeting of agriculture and forestry scientists today. The meeting was held at the District Council in the presence of experts, with the aim to bring essential changes for the development of the region’s economy and to enhance the income of farmers by promoting climate-specific, inclusive growth.

The discussions during the meeting focused on a range of topics such as horticultural development, agriculture advancement, integrated farming models, and large-scale fruit production strategies, all tailored to the unique climate of the Aravalli Mountain Range. The importance of region-specific plans was underscored, emphasizing the need to promote sustainable farming practices for the economic betterment of local communities.

Dr. Ravat, acknowledging the positive steps already taken, expressed gratitude towards ICAR for approving a tissue-culture based project in Mewar aimed at improving the quality of custard apple (sitafal), a significant agricultural product of the region. The MP also extended thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India for their continued support in the implementation of such initiatives.

The meeting was attended by key representatives from the Forest Department, Maharana Pratap Agricultural and Technology University, Udaipur, as well as horticultural, forestry, and agricultural scientists from Kajari Jodhpur and Afari Jodhpur. Discussions included the results of current research projects, the applicability of agricultural technologies from Israel, and the lessons learned from Indian Agricultural Research Centre projects, which have been successfully implemented in Rajasthan.

Dr. Ravat emphasized the need for better integration of these ongoing projects and suggested including funding from the Earth Aba Tribal Upliftment Program, DMFT, or CSR funds for innovative projects that could further enhance agricultural productivity. The idea of implementing more effective strategies through a collective approach, with government schemes in place, was welcomed by all participants.

Key figures at the meeting included Dr. A.K. Shukla, Head of ICAR Kajari, Prof. R.L. Soni, Dr. Amit Trivedi, Anurag Bhatnagar, Dr. Virendra Singh, Dr. Siddharth, Dr. Rajeshwari Ranawat, and Dr. Kailash Sharma, among others.

This meeting marks a vital step in the long-term vision to improve the agricultural and economic landscape of Mewar and Vagad, ensuring that these regions continue to thrive and contribute to the growth of Rajasthan and the nation.
