New Delhi / Manama, May 26 – In a scathing critique of Pakistan’s internal instability and its role in fostering terrorism, former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and Democratic Progressive Azad Party chief Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that Pakistan alone harbours more terrorists than the rest of the world combined. Speaking during a multi-party Indian delegation visit to Bahrain, Azad also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy efforts, emphasizing India’s unity and pluralism compared to Pakistan’s fragmented state.

🔥 “Pakistan Created on Religious Lines, But Couldn’t Stay United”
Azad, who was part of the delegation led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, told ANI that despite being founded on religious lines, Pakistan has failed to maintain unity, citing the separation of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) from West Pakistan.
“Pakistan was created on the basis of religion, but they couldn’t keep it together. East and West Pakistan didn’t survive as one. In contrast, India is a diverse yet united nation, where people of all faiths live peacefully,” Azad said.
🚫 Pakistan is Terrorism’s Global Epicenter
Making one of his most hard-hitting statements yet, Azad said:
“There are more terrorists living in Pakistan than in the rest of the world combined.”
He criticized Islamabad for allowing terror outfits to flourish on its soil, further destabilizing the region and undermining peace initiatives made by successive Indian governments.
🎯 On ‘Operation Sindoor’: Target Was Terror, Not Civilians
Azad also addressed the recent Indian military operation, ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted terror hideouts across the border.
He clarified that India’s response was precise and targeted only terrorists and their families, with no intention of harming innocent civilians in Pakistan.
“Our military ensured no ordinary Pakistani citizen was harmed. Only terrorists and their kin were neutralized. However, in retaliation, Pakistan irresponsibly targeted Indian civilians, which is unacceptable,” he noted.
🇮🇳 Backing PM Modi’s Outreach to Neighbours
Azad, a seasoned politician with decades in Parliament, acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s diplomatic efforts to build stable relationships with neighbouring countries.
“All Indian Prime Ministers, including PM Modi, have tried to maintain peace and good relations with Pakistan and other neighbours. But India has consistently faced the challenge of cross-border terrorism.”
🤝 Indian Unity Praised Abroad
The Indian delegation also met with the Indian diaspora in Bahrain, who turned up in large numbers. Azad said the diversity and harmony among Indians in Bahrain make it feel like a “Mini India”.
“Here, people of all religions live together without any discrimination. It reflects the true spirit of India,” Azad added.
📌 Takeaway
Ghulam Nabi Azad’s strong remarks reflect a rare moment of political unity across party lines in support of India’s counterterrorism stance. As regional tensions remain high, voices like Azad’s — echoing both domestic unity and international accountability — signal a more assertive diplomatic and security posture from India.
