Jaipur, Aug 12 (H.S.) – The sluggish monsoon in Rajasthan is expected to regain momentum from August 14, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting rainfall activity in several parts of the state. A fresh weather system forming over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger showers in the southeastern districts, including parts of Kota and Udaipur divisions. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many areas, with heavy rain at isolated locations.
According to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the current monsoon trough is passing north of normal through Amritsar and Chandigarh, with westerly winds prevailing over the state. This pattern will keep rainfall subdued across most areas for the next three to four days. However, from August 14, moist easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will become active, leading to showers in eastern Rajasthan from August 15 and parts of western Rajasthan from August 16. Heavy rain is forecast for some parts of Kota division on August 15 and Udaipur division on August 16.
On Monday, weather remained largely clear in most places till afternoon, followed by cloudy skies and light showers. Alwar, Jaipur, Jhalawar, and Banswara recorded drizzle, with the highest rainfall of 10 mm in Kathumar (Alwar). Danpur in Banswara recorded 1 mm, Bakani in Jhalawar 7 mm, Kotputli in Jaipur 3 mm, and Viratnagar 5 mm. Light showers were also reported in Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Bikaner, Jaipur, and Sikar.
Minimum temperatures (°C) recorded on Monday were: Ajmer 24.7, Bhilwara 24.8, Jaipur 27.3, Pilani 25.0, Sikar 25.2, Kota 26.6, Chittorgarh 24.8, Barmer 26.8, Jaisalmer 25.7, Jodhpur 25.8, Bikaner 28.2, Churu 26.8, Sriganganagar 29.5, Nagaur 25.5, Dungarpur 25.2, Jalore 27.2, Sirohi 20.6, Karauli and Dausa 26.4.
The IMD has forecast dry weather across the state for August 12 and 13. A yellow alert has been issued for August 14 for light to moderate rain in Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Kota, Baran, and Jhalawar. On August 15, the yellow alert will cover Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Bundi, Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, and Banswara.
