Monsoon Gains Momentum in Rajasthan; Jaipur Sees Record Rainfall in a Decade, Alerts Issued in Several Districts

Jaipur, June 25 — The southwest monsoon has intensified across Rajasthan, bringing widespread rainfall to many parts of the state. Districts including Jaipur, Sikar, Jalore, and Baran received substantial rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for 25 districts as the monsoon remains active.

Jaipur witnessed its heaviest single-day rainfall in June in the past 10 years, recording 77.8 mm (approximately 3 inches) of rain between 8 AM and 5 PM on Tuesday. This surpasses the previous record of 47.3 mm set on June 21, 2022.

Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging and Disruptions

In Sikar, rains began around 7:30 AM on Wednesday, continuing intermittently throughout the day. On Tuesday, persistent cloud cover and showers led to severe waterlogging on Nawalgarh Road, where water levels rose to nearly three feet, submerging several vehicles. Rescue efforts used JCBs and tractors to assist stranded residents.

Jalore experienced overnight rain, which continued as a light drizzle into Wednesday morning. In Baran district, heavy rainfall led to flooding in several villages, cutting off access to major roads. The Parvati and Barni rivers are flowing above danger levels, and the Naharghad-Bhanwargarh road was rendered impassable after a bridge over the Barni river was washed away. Continuous rain over the past three days has left several areas resembling islands.

Statewide Rain Surpasses Average

Elsewhere, districts such as Kota, Bhilwara, Banswara, Ajmer, Nagaur, Dungarpur, and Tonk also reported significant rainfall on Tuesday. Nagaur’s Didwana recorded 44 mm, while Tonk’s Niwai reported 36 mm.

According to official data, Rajasthan recorded 133% above-normal rainfall from June 1 to June 23, creating favorable conditions for Kharif crop planting and groundwater replenishment.

The active monsoon brought a slight drop in temperatures across several cities, though some areas still experienced intense heat.
