Evian, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump met on Tuesday in Evian, France, ahead of an outreach session at the G7 Summit. The two leaders greeted each other warmly, shaking hands before engaging in brief discussions on the session’s theme of “Building New Partnerships and Strengthening International Solidarity.” This session will include G7 countries, partner nations, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank.
On Wednesday, Modi and Trump will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss crucial issues such as economic development, supply chains, artificial intelligence (AI), investment partnerships, and global security. This will be their first bilateral meeting since the successful “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan last year.
The White House confirmed that the meeting will take place before a working lunch involving G7 leaders, outreach partners, and technology company officials.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron warmly welcomed Modi upon his arrival at the G7 Summit. The two leaders embraced during their meeting, with Trump and other G7 leaders also present.
Upon arriving in Evian, Modi expressed his excitement about meeting world leaders and sharing thoughts on significant global issues. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “I have arrived in Evian, France for the G7 Summit. I look forward to engaging with world leaders and sharing perspectives on important global issues. India is committed to working together for a more sustainable and prosperous world.”
India has been invited as a partner country to the 52nd G7 Summit, taking place from June 15 to 17. During this conference, Modi will discuss key issues related to India and the Global South (developing countries) with world leaders.
This marks India’s 13th participation in the G7 Summit and Modi’s seventh consecutive attendance. The outreach sessions on June 16 and 17 will see Modi participating alongside leaders from other invited countries. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), these meetings will primarily focus on strengthening international partnerships, enhancing cooperation for development, balanced economic growth, and effectively advancing artificial intelligence.
The MEA noted that India’s continuous participation in the G7 Summit highlights the growing importance of India’s role and contribution in addressing global issues such as peace, security, development, and the environment. India has consistently raised the priorities, concerns, and development aspirations of developing countries on international platforms like the G20 and the ‘Voice of the Global South Summit.’
