Mumbai, March 30: Mumbai Indians achieved a remarkable feat in the IPL 2026 by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by six wickets in their second match on Sunday. The standout performers for Mumbai were Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, who led the team to a historic win at Wankhede Stadium, successfully completing the largest run chase in their IPL history.
Chasing a target of 221 runs set by KKR, Mumbai Indians reached their goal in just 19.1 overs, losing four wickets in the process. This victory broke their five-year-old record, previously set in 2021 when they chased down 219 runs against Chennai Super Kings. This match also marked the sixth-largest run chase in IPL history.
Rohit Sharma played a stellar innings, scoring 78 runs off 38 balls at a strike rate of 205, hitting six fours and six sixes. Ryan Rickelton also showcased his batting prowess, scoring 81 runs off 43 balls with a strike rate of 188, including four fours and eight sixes. Tilak Varma contributed 20 runs off 14 balls, while captain Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten with 18 runs off 11 balls.
Earlier, KKR had set a challenging target, scoring 220 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led the charge for KKR with a brilliant 67 runs off 40 balls. Finn Allen added 37 runs from just 17 balls, while Angkrish Raghuwanshi scored 51 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 175. Rinku Singh finished the innings with an unbeaten 33 runs off 21 balls. This victory marks the beginning of the IPL season for Mumbai with a win after 13 years.
