Madrid, January 1 (Udaipur Kiran) – Real Madrid has received a major setback as top scorer Kylian Mbappe suffered a knee injury during training, the club confirmed.
As a result, he will miss the La Liga home match against Betis on Sunday and his participation in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia is also doubtful.
The club stated on its official website that after tests conducted by Real Madrid medical services, Mbappe has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee.
As usual with Real Madrid, the medical report did not specify when the French striker will return, only mentioning that his progress will be closely monitored.
With Real Madrid set to face Atletico in the second semifinal of the Super Cup in Jeddah on January 8, the time for recovery is limited, making his involvement in the tournament, which concludes on January 11, uncertain.
Many believe that Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso’s position is at risk, and the team may have to compete without their star player, affecting Alonso’s future.
Mbappe has played in 24 of Real Madrid’s 25 matches this season. The only match he missed was a 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.
He has scored 18 goals in 18 La Liga matches, accounting for half of Real Madrid’s total 36 goals, and has also netted nine goals in five Champions League games.
