UDAIPUR, February 3 – A mass food poisoning incident was reported in Udaipur, where several people fell ill after consuming food at a Telik Sahu community mass wedding ceremony. The victims, primarily women and children, began experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness soon after the meal.
As the number of patients surged, Maharana Bhupal (MB) Hospital had to open a new ward to accommodate the influx of cases. Currently, 27 patients remain admitted, including a 15-year-old girl in critical condition.

Over 200 Affected, Hospital Beds Filled
The community wedding feast was organized on Sunday at Oswal Bhavan in Mukherjee Chowk. Shortly after consuming the food, several guests started experiencing symptoms of food poisoning.
By Sunday night, the number of affected individuals crossed 200, with 57 patients requiring hospitalization. The rest were given primary treatment and discharged. By Monday morning, 30 patients had recovered, but 27 remain under medical supervision.
Sweets and Traditional Dish Suspected
Preliminary reports suggest that most of the affected individuals had consumed sweets and ‘Raab’, a traditional dish.
One of the hospitalized victims, Ram Rathore, recounted, “Soon after eating, I started feeling sick. Many people suffered from vomiting and diarrhea, while some even fainted.”
Health Department Investigates, Food Samples Collected
Dr. Omprakash Raipuria, Deputy CMHO, stated that the outbreak had a stronger impact on women and children, likely due to weaker immunity levels.
Health department officials are set to collect food samples from the venue on Monday. Once lab reports are available, the exact cause of food poisoning will be determined.
Community Leaders Respond
Advocate Kailash Sahu, president of the Telik Sahu Samaj, confirmed that a separate investigation is also being conducted at the community level to determine any lapses in food safety.
The incident highlights the critical importance of food hygiene at large-scale gatherings, with authorities now closely monitoring the situation to prevent further cases.
