Paris, August 3: Manu Bhaker narrowly missed out on a historic third Olympic medal at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Saturday, finishing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol final with a score of 28.
She was initially tied for third place with former world record holder (25m pistol) Veronica Major of Hungary but lost the shoot-off series by two points, allowing Major to clinch the bronze medal. South Korea’s Yang Jin won the gold medal with a score of 37 (via shoot-off – 4-1), while French shooter Camille Jedrzejewski claimed silver.
Having qualified second in the women’s 25m pistol shooting on Friday, Manu had entered her third final in the ongoing Games. No other Indian shooter has reached more than one final in an Olympic Games, and only Abhinav Bindra has made it to three Olympic shooting finals for India in three Games.
Having already won two medals at Paris 2024, Manu finished with a total score of 590. The 22-year-old has previously won bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol and mixed team 10m air pistol events at Paris 2024. She scored 294 in the precision round and 296 in the rapid fire round.
Three years ago in Tokyo, the then 19-year-old Manu failed to reach the final in any of her three events. Now, she has become the face of Indian shooting’s success in Paris.
