Major Drug Bust Across Three States
Mumbai, October 25: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, central agencies conducted simultaneous raids at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur on October 23, leading to the arrest of 18 individuals and the seizure of assets worth ₹17.82 crore. This operation, dubbed ‘Operation Trident’, is part of India’s commitment to dismantle drug networks by December 31, 2029.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the operation, highlighting that it resulted in the discovery of ₹100 crore in hawala transactions and the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts. During the raids, authorities recovered 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash. The arrested individuals were linked to a network that smuggled drugs through the ‘Death Triangle Corridor’ connecting India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
Shah emphasized that this operation reflects India’s resolve to eradicate all drug networks, stating, “India will continue its efforts until the last nail is driven into the coffin of these drug syndicates.”
Additionally, the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign has reached over 35 crore people, including 13.94 crore youth and 10.86 crore women, as reported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Launched on August 15, 2020, the campaign aims to reduce the demand for narcotics and has expanded from 272 sensitive districts to nationwide participation.
