Mumbai, May 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the need for the state government to effectively implement various central and state schemes aimed at providing better and more accessible health services across Maharashtra. During a meeting, he instructed all departments to work in coordination and complete the construction of the Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Critical Care Block, and laboratory projects on time to enhance the state’s healthcare system.
To monitor social sector schemes, a Chief Minister’s War Room has been established. Under this initiative, Fadnavis reviewed various central and state health schemes. The meeting included a detailed review of pending tasks related to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, strengthening health infrastructure under the 15th Finance Commission, the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, the establishment of new medical colleges, and the HPV vaccination campaign.
The Chief Minister stated that the government is particularly focused on providing quality and accessible health services in both urban and rural areas of the state. He mentioned that a work plan for Maharashtra has been developed after studying the health systems of several states, including Tamil Nadu, and it is crucial to implement it effectively.
Fadnavis highlighted the importance of timely utilization of funds received from the central government. He urged all district collectors to personally oversee the construction of Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Critical Care Blocks, and integrated public health laboratories. While acknowledging initial delays, he noted that district performance is now satisfactory, although some areas still show slow progress.
He stressed that there should be no lack of coordination among departments regarding pending projects and urged a positive administrative approach to complete the work. The Chief Minister also called for a change in the perception that the health sector is a low-priority area.
He insisted that government health facilities must demonstrate quality, cleanliness, and better branding, challenging the notion that cleanliness and service levels in government hospitals are poor. Fadnavis encouraged officials to adopt new technologies, stating that modular technology can ensure better quality and timely construction.
Referring to improvements at a primary health center in Pune, he suggested that such initiatives should be replicated in other parts of the state. He emphasized that every official must take responsibility for their work to ensure visible improvements in the government health system.
The Chief Minister directed the immediate resolution of obstacles in establishing medical colleges and noted that the timelines set during the meeting would be officially recorded. He stated that progress would be reviewed in the next War Room meeting, expecting officials to fulfill the commitments made today. He urged not to leave matters pending and to increase follow-up efforts.
Fadnavis concluded by stating that if any issues remain unresolved at any level, they should be escalated to department heads, secretaries, the Chief Secretary, ministers, or himself without delay.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde added that projects related to Ayushman Arogya Mandir and medical colleges are being expedited to strengthen the state’s health infrastructure. He reiterated that enhancing health facilities is the government’s primary objective and that continuous reviews of the Ayushman Arogya Mandir scheme are underway. Upgrading primary health centers will provide better facilities to people in both rural and urban areas, and medical college projects will also increase human resources in the health sector.
