Maharaj Arvind Singh Bids Farewell with Mewar’s Royal Traditions

Udaipur, March 17: Mewar bid a tearful farewell to Maharaj Arvind Singh, a senior member of the Mewar royal family, uncle of Maharana Vishvaraj Singh of Mewar, and custodian of Udaipur’s City Palace. On Monday, he was cremated with full royal traditions and honors at Mahasatiya in Ayad, where he merged with the five elements of nature. His son, Lakshyaraj Singh, performed the last rites, while Mewar’s current Maharana Vishvaraj Singh stood solemnly by his side, paying his final respects.

From 7:30 AM, Maharaj Arvind Singh’s mortal remains were kept for public darshan at Shambhu Niwas, within the City Palace complex. Family members, dignitaries, and citizens from across the country and abroad arrived to pay their heartfelt tributes. Among them were former cricketer Ajay Jadeja, actor Shailesh Lodha, Taj Group CEO Puneet Chhatwal, and MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati, along with several other notable figures.

At 11:00 AM, the final procession commenced from Shambhu Niwas, with Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar and other family members carrying the palanquin. As the procession made its way through Badi Pol, Jagdish Chowk, Ghantaghar, Bada Bazaar, Teej ka Chowk, and Delhi Gate, thousands of grieving citizens joined in. The streets of Udaipur were blanketed in flower petals, as people showered flowers and bowed in reverence to their beloved royal. Various societies and institutions paid floral tributes along the route.

Upon reaching Mahasatiya, Lakshyaraj Singh lit the funeral pyre, marking the final farewell to his revered father. Maharana Vishvaraj Singh of Mewar, along with Salumber Rao Saheb Devvrat Singh Chundawat, Maharaj Randeer Singh Bhindar, Rao Saheb Mahesh Pratap Singh Kotharia, Rawat Saheb Kanod and other nobles, stood together, offering their respects.

Maharaj Arvind Singh had been unwell for a long time, and on Sunday morning, he breathed his last. His demise cast a deep shadow of grief over Mewar, as people mourned the loss of a royal who had dedicated his life to preserving the glory and heritage of the Mewar dynasty.

A deeply emotional moment unfolded when, at the funeral site, Maharana Vishvaraj Singh Mewar and his cousin, Lakshyaraj Singh, folded hands in mutual respect and sorrow, standing together in shared grief, reflecting the unity and legacy of Mewar’s illustrious history.
