Madhya Pradesh Weather Update: Thunderstorm and Rain Alert in 25 Districts, Heat Persists in Jabalpur and Gwalior

Bhopal | May 14, 2025 – Weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh remain highly variable this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in 25 districts today, including the capital Bhopal. While parts of the state brace for gusty winds and showers, Jabalpur and Gwalior continue to sizzle under high temperatures.

According to the IMD, unstable weather patterns will persist across central and western MP until May 17, with strong winds and scattered rainfall expected in many regions.

Districts Under Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alert

The IMD has listed the following districts under weather advisory for May 14:
Bhopal, Morena, Bhind, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Dewas, Sehore, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat.

On Tuesday, several parts of the state including Dhar, Ratlam, Bhopal, and Balaghat experienced sudden showers. In Bhopal, heavy rain in the afternoon drenched the city in less than 30 minutes. Wind speeds caused waves of up to 1.5 feet on the city’s upper lake, while Malajkhand in Balaghat recorded over 1.25 inches of rainfall.

Heatwave Conditions Continue in Other Regions

Despite the rain, intense heat prevailed across multiple districts. Khajuraho was the hottest location, recording a maximum temperature of 42.4°C, followed closely by:

  • Nowgong – 42°C

  • Satna – 41.8°C

  • Rewa – 41.2°C

  • Umaria – 41.1°C

  • Tikamgarh – 41°C

  • Sidhi – 40.8°C

  • Narsinghpur – 40.4°C

  • Guna – 40.2°C

  • Mandla – 40°C

Among major cities, the temperatures stood at:

  • Bhopal – 38.2°C

  • Indore – 36.3°C

  • Gwalior – 41.4°C

  • Ujjain – 38.5°C

  • Jabalpur – 38.8°C

The lone hill station Pachmarhi remained the coolest at 31.8°C.

Monsoon Arrival Expected by June 15

The IMD has confirmed that southwest monsoon reached the Andaman Islands on Tuesday. It is expected to enter southern Madhya Pradesh by June 15, progressing via districts like Balaghat, Seoni, Mandla, Betul, and Burhanpur. Full coverage across the state is likely within 10 days of its arrival.
