Madhya Pradesh Weather Alert: Rain Forecast in 38 Districts, Heatwave Likely in Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol

Bhopal, May 14, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Madhya Pradesh, warning of rain and thunderstorms in 38 districts across seven divisions including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain. The ongoing weather activity is attributed to the combined influence of a Western Disturbance, cyclonic circulation, and trough system.

While central and western parts of the state will witness unstable weather, Jabalpur, Rewa, and Shahdol divisions are expected to remain dry, with a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures.

Districts Under Rain and Thunderstorm Alert

Strong winds ranging between 30 to 50 km/h and light to moderate rain are forecasted in the following districts:

• Central and Western MP: Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Sehore, Vidisha, Dewas, Rajgarh, Shajapur, and Hoshangabad

• Malwa and Chambal Region: Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Bhind, Morena, Shivpuri, Datia, Sheopur, Guna, and Ashoknagar

• Narmadapuram and Surrounding Areas: Harda, Betul, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Barwani

• Mahakoshal Region: Chhindwara, Seoni, Pandhurna, Narsinghpur

• Bundelkhand and Adjacent Areas: Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Niwari

IMD warns that thunderstorms could result in localized damage such as tree uprooting or temporary power disruption. Residents are advised to stay indoors during severe weather periods.

Rising Temperatures in Eastern MP

Despite rainfall in many regions, eastern districts like Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur will experience clear skies and rising temperatures. On Monday, temperatures surged past 41°C in Khajuraho, marking it the hottest spot in the state.

• Satna: 40.7°C

• Rewa: 40.5°C

• Narsinghpur: 40.2°C

• Gwalior: 40.4°C

• Jabalpur: 38.3°C

• Bhopal: 38.4°C

• Indore: 36.7°C

• Ujjain: 37.8°C

Pachmarhi, the state’s only hill station, recorded a relatively cooler 30.8°C.

Weather Outlook Till May 16

According to Senior Meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran, three active systems are currently influencing weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh. Scattered rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected to continue until May 16. After this period, the summer heat is likely to intensify, especially in districts where weather activity begins to recede.

The IMD has advised residents in affected regions to take necessary precautions, especially during thunderstorms, and to stay updated via official weather bulletins.
