Washington, November 5 (Udaipur Kiran): Billionaire philanthropist and Jeff Bezos’s former wife, MacKenzie Scott, has donated 80 million dollars (around ₹709 crore) to Howard University — one of the largest contributions in the university’s 158-year history. The donation is completely unrestricted, allowing the institution full freedom to utilize the funds as needed.

According to reports, 63 million dollars from the total amount will go toward the university’s general operations, while 17 million dollars will support Howard’s medical college.
Howard University’s interim president described the donation as a “historic investment” that will help sustain the university’s ongoing growth, support student aid, improve campus infrastructure, and create a reserve fund. He added that the contribution arrived at the “right time,” as federal funding delays caused by the U.S. government shutdown have impacted the university’s finances.
This donation aligns with MacKenzie Scott’s recent philanthropic focus on promoting diversity and equality. She has made several major contributions to organizations supporting education for low-income and minority students.
The donation also comes amid reports that Scott has reduced her stake in Amazon by about 12.6 billion dollars. Her current net worth is estimated at 35.6 billion dollars. Over the past five years, she has donated nearly 19 billion dollars to more than 2,000 organizations.
