Udaipur: Even after capturing two leopards in Gogunda, the series of attacks and deaths has not stopped. Within 24 hours, a leopard killed two more people in two different places in the district. On Wednesday, a 5-year-old girl was carried away by a leopard in the Gogunda area. The child’s severed palm was found in the jungle. A short distance away, her body was lying. Before the villagers could do anything, a leopard emerged from the bushes and carried away the body. About 17 hours later, around 12 noon on Thursday, the child’s decapitated body was found.
About 30 kilometers from the Gogunda area, in Sarana Fala of Jhadol, a young man who had gone to collect leaves for goats was killed by a leopard on Thursday. In the last 10 days, a leopard has hunted 5 people from this area. However, it is not certain whether the leopard that killed the child and the young man also killed the other three people.
The first incident of a leopard attack occurred around 7 pm on Wednesday in the Bhil Basti of Kudau village in Majawad Gram Panchayat. A leopard attacked Suraj (5), daughter of Gemer Lal Gameti, who was washing her hands near a stream. When the children standing nearby shouted, the villagers came. They went to the jungle to search for Suraj. While searching for Suraj, the villagers reached a hilly area near the forest. About 500 meters from the house, the child’s severed palm was found. A little further ahead, the child’s mutilated body was found. The leopard had eaten the child’s face and left hand. The villagers were still talking among themselves when a leopard emerged from the bushes and dragged away the child’s body. The villagers shouted, but it did not leave the body.
The second incident occurred on Thursday in Sarana Fala of Jhador, 30 kilometers from the Gogunda area. Shankar (50), son of Limba Kharari, who had gone to collect leaves for goats, was attacked and killed by a leopard. The villagers found Shankar’s body around 3 pm. After this, the villagers protested. They insisted on capturing the leopard and demanding compensation. Deputy SP Mahavir Singh Shekhawat and SDM Hansmuk Kumar reached the spot. The police administration pacified the villagers. After about two hours, the villagers agreed after assurances of compensation and early capture of the leopard.
